I have always been a sucker for the big beat ballad type of sound or a song laden with orchestration and Ray Pollard recorded 2 of my favourites with the "The Drifter" - a desert island disc supreme and I would tuck his "It's A Sad Thing" in there as well.
We have to be thankful that Ray and many others have crossed the Atlantic in the last 20 years to perform and in most cases their performances were captured for posterity for us to saviour. I think 2007 will see more of the home made movies of our soul stars reaching us via You Tube as people want to share their memories.
Ray sadly died a few years back so watching his performance at the 100 Club is even more poignant:
