Cal Tjader Evil Ways Fantasy

Cal Tjader's cool vibe playing has always been a fave of mine whether it is the early Fantasy material or the later Verve material. One track that is a long term favourite is his classic Soul Sauce with with long-time piano player Lonnie Hewitt, drummer Johnny Rae and percussionist's Willie Bobo and Armanda Perazan.

Today's pick is Evil Ways which is a cover of the Santana track. You can find Evil Ways on the excellent Kent collection Mod Jazz which is one of 5 CDs released by the company on a similar theme - music to blow the cobwebs away!

Just now stumbled across this from Googling Armando's name. Last night we played my Mom's great old George Shearing Latin Affair LP [after playing my Soul Sauce LP]and I noticed Armando there too. Good stuff. I liked it when she brought the LP home way back then, and I like it now. We lived in the Bay Area at the time so my folks would see the conga/bongo man with Dave Brubeck.
