Frank Wilson Do I Love You For Auction?

I have been following with interest the possiblity of Frank Wilson Do I Love You on Soul, which is reputedly one of the world's rarest records, being auctioned in the near future.

You can keep upto date on Soul Source with the auction and the ensuing interest.

What is fascinating on the Soul Source thread is the mythology surrounding this 45 from how it was recorded, Berry Gordy's insistence on copies being destroyed after deciding Frank Wilson was to be a producer/writer only, how copies survived and where they came from and the ensuing tale of how the 45 became the most famous Northern Soul 45 of all time. The thread is set against the speculation of how much the 45 will fetch and who will want to bid or more importantly who can afford to bid.

The record will get thousands of pounds, that's for sure, seeing as the last two times a copy came up for sale the disc got 5,000 and 15,000 quid (both times was the same copy), so it may fetch 20,000 pounds this time round. I like the song, but if I had twety grand I wouldn't be buying it.

The £5000 copy isn't the same one as the £15000 one. The first is the one that is up for sale now, the second is DJ Kenny Burrells copy, which came from a Canadian collector.

This is currently at around £25,000 with a couple of days yet to run
