Cabbage Alley

I first heard this band on Craig Charles' Funk & Soul Show when he played their pounding version of Eddie Harris's Freedom Soul Dance.

The band are; Morel - saxophones , vocals and occaisional percussion; John Ellis - organ , vocals , bass guitar (Freedom soul dance); Eryl Roberts - drums and percussion; Steve 'Billy' Buckley - Guitar, baritone and lapsteel guitars. Between them the members of Cabbage Alley have worked with - The Cinamatic Orchestra, Corrine Bailey Rae,Lilly Allen, Bob Mintzer, Fontella Bass, Hamish Stuart, Richard Hawley,Embrace, Chuck Berry,Vince Mendoza, Damon Albarn, Scott Hamilton, Kenny Wheeler to name a few.

They list their influences as: pies, chips n'gravy, tea, scrumpy, Fred Dibner, Jauque Tati , Shirley Crabtree, Eddie Harris, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Adge Cutler, Mikey Dread, cinnamon bagels, vintage British motorbikes, Hank Williams, Earl Bostic , lady esquire, massey fergi tractors particularly the massey 35 and its predecessor the little grey fergi, Ian Drury, Hunter S Thompson, Max Geldray, Harry Hawk, Peter Gurney etc etc.
