Dan Phillips over on Home Of the Groove has a post featuring Louisiana instrumentals which is well worth dropping over for.
I dug into my collection to feature one of my fave N.O. instrumentals from 2 giants of the N.O. scene - George Davis and Red Tyler. This track came out on 45 and also on the Aaron Neville Par Lo Tell It Like It Is album.
Here is what Warren T. Parker, the then President of Par Lo, had to say about Davis and Tyler:
The versatility of the brilliant, young George Davis was such a determining factor in the production of this package that we allowed him to showcase some of his talents on two of the enclosed tracks.
The second voice you hear is that of "Red" Tyler, formidable "old man" of the establishment.
We are certain that you will enjoy these instrumentals as much as Aaron Neville vocals.
Waren T. Parker would probably have never guessed that over 40 years later "Hold On, Help Is On The Way" would be a perennial Northern classic guaranteed to burn up the dancefloor.
