Our last volume of Funk Soul Sisters featured Ethel’s “I Know You Care”, and we couldn’t resist having another listen to her sensuous soul style. The production is typical of Roy Ayers’ sound of the time (1982), and while perhaps hampered in a commercial by the limited resources of Roy’s own Uno Melodic label, there was no doubt that the otherwise-unknown Ms Beatty was saying something artistically.
