Fortune Records on MySpace

Nathaniel Mayer Village Of Love Fortune

More and more soul related pages are cropping up on My Space. One the ones I have discovered recently relates to Fortune Records. Fortune Records were a seminal label in the development of R&B in Detroit in the 50's and early 60's. The label ran from 1946 to 1995 though original releases tapered off after about 1966 and ceased completely after the early 1980s. Fortune specialized in R&B, blues, soul and doo-wop music, although the label also released pop, big band, hillbilly, gospel, rock 'n' roll, and even polka records.

The Fortune Records My Space pages are especially interesting because they gather all the links across the Net related to Fortune and artists associated with the label such as Nathaniel Mayer, Andre Williams, The Diablos etc.

Probably best features on Fortune is the Soulful Detroit webisode written by Ron Murphy.

I will be dropping by more My Space pages in future posts.
