Boogaloo Assassins

I was sent a flyer for a gig featuring the Boogaloo Assassins who were new to me. A quick check on MySpace turned up the following blurb:

Welcome to the party, y'all. Formed in Los Angeles from the ashes of the rock-steady machine Ocean 11, latin-funk pioneers Five Degrees of Soul, ska stalwarts See Spot, Chris Murray Combo and roots reggae monsters the Expanders, the Boogaloo Assassins are here to get down Spanish-Harlem style. Heavily indebted to the classic sounds of New York's late 60's/early 70's latin music explosion, the Asesinos serve up traditional latin son/son-montuno/guaguanco/cha-cha-cha/latin boogaloo/latin soul, blues and descargas for your feets and ears. We keep it hot & greasy as we can - vaya!

We're influenced by the music of Cuba, Puerto Rico, Spanish Harlem and beyond, with a special jones for New York City's latin boogaloo, soul & funk of the late 60's and early 70's. Though too numerous to mention them all, we give the utmost of respect to: Ray Barretto, Willie Colon, the ALEGRE All-Stars, Joe Cuba, Joe Bataan, the FANIA ALL-STARS, Bobby Matos, Eddie & Charlie Palmieri, Mongo and Monguito Santamaria, Willie Bobo, Bobby Valentin, Barry Rogers, Tito Puente, Orestes Vilato, Cal Tjader, Lebron Bros., Johnny Colon, Willie Rosario, Larry Harlow, Hector Lavoe, Ismael Quintana, Jose 'Cheo' Feliciano, Pucho and the Latin Soul Brothers, Poncho Sanchez, Francsico Aguabella, Jose Rizo's Jazz on the Latin Side All-Stars y mas y mas y mas...

They are unsigned at present which is a shame because they have a great sound so drop over to their MySpace and give them a blast.
